Three-step Interview

Three-step Interview

Three-step interviews can be used as an introductory activity or as a strategy to explore concepts in depth through student roles.

1) Teacher provides interview questions or may assign character roles for interview process
2) In pairs, student A interviews student B, practicing listening and questioning skills.
3) Students reverse roles and B interviews A
4) Pairs team up with another pair to form groups of four. Each member of the group introduces the partner interviewed, sharing interesting points.

Sample Questions to Guide the Process:
Can you explain more about that?
What do you mean by that?
Can you give me an example?
Why would that happen?
Why do you think that?
What might happen next?
Generating a list of possible question stems may help students develop questioning skills.
