EXPLANATION OF CATHOLIC CURRICULUM
Schools stress curriculum because mastering curriculum is what learning is all about. However, in a Catholic school, learning goes beyond the objectives of the provincially prescribed curriculum. While Catholic schools share a "core curriculum" with all Saskatchewan schools, they also have another "core" which is unique to their identity and mandate to provide an education for students consistent with scripture, tradition, and the magisterium of the Catholic Church. This unique core is the very heart of Christ where all learning and truth originate.
In describing Catholic curriculum, the word "permeare" or "permeate" is used to suggest "passing through" as water passes through sand. In a Catholic school, faith, reason, and life experiences must pass through the curriculum so that students learn not only that which is written on paper, but also that which is written in the heart of Christ. Thus, education in a Catholic school ensures the Catholic faith permeates all curricula and everything done in the school.
