About the Site : Frequently Asked Questions

1. How is this resource to be used?

The intention of the developers was that there would be several target audiences for this project. Classroom teachers could use individual sections to teach specific content or sections of the History 30 curriculum. Students could be assigned specific lessons and use the links provided to explore a topic. Finally, an online teacher could draw on this resource in the teaching of a 100-hour online course.

2. What are the pages marked teachers?

These pages contain adaptations and extensions of the activity they are linked from; they also contain links to web-based teacher guides, lesson plans, or teaching ideas for that activity. Not all of these suggestions are linked directly to Saskatchewan curricular objectives, nor are they necessarily devised for secondary students, although none of them have a target audience below middle years students. All of them do have a content connection to the activity and could be used by Saskatchewan teachers of History 30, with some adaptation.

In addition, efforts have been made to include cross-curricular suggestions, particularly selections for English Language Arts A30 that would apply to a particular topic. Information on all of the suggested selections should be available by accessing the English Language Arts 30 bibliographies on the Evergreen Curriculum.

The pages containing extensions and adaptations can be accessed by clicking on the buttons at the bottom of the activity pages marked teachers

3. How is this site linked to Saskatchewan Learning curricula?

Every module is linked directly to the foundational objectives for a specific unit in the History 30 evergreen curriculum. Most of the core concepts are covered by an activity and at least one assignment. In addition, there are additional activities which support curricular objectives or which have particularly good web resources available.

4. What are the links marked Current Events?

It is expected that approximately 20% of the class time in History 30 will be devoted to the teaching and discussion of current events. The Current Events page will give teachers ideas and resources for teaching current events.

5. What are technical requirements for the site?

The site is best viewed using a screen of 800 pixels by 600 pixels.

Many of the links to interactive sites will be most readily accessed with a high-speed connection.

6. What downloads are necessary to make the best use of the resource?

Quicktime (for Historical Heritage Minutes)

Windows Media Player (for CBC Archives)

Acrobat Adobe (for pdf files)

Macromedia Flash plug-in (for McCord Museum)
