Word Processing Activity #2
Movie / Music Review
Introduction:
Students will write a review of their favorite movie, music CD or both.
Motivational Set:
Before you initiate any discussion with the students about the topic, remind them to respect other students' opinions and not to make any negative comments to other students.
Begin by asking the class what their favorite movie or CD is. As students answer ask secondary questions like "What made the movie good?" or "Is there anything you didn't like about it?" Get them to give their opinion of the movie or CD, the discussion will make for good dialogue and the students will most likely enjoy expressing their opinions.
Try and get a few different views or opinions (male / female) to further simulate the discussion.
Procedure:
This activity will have students write a review of their favorite movie or CD.
First, discuss with the class what should be included in a movie review and generate a list with the class. You may want the students to find and read some movie or music reviews on the internet or prepare some links ahead of time so the students can see some examples.
Second, help the students organize their thoughts by providing them with what the review should include.
-
Start by giving a summary of the movie or a history of the band. Don't give away any movie essentials like the end, surprises or plot twists, try and use basic generalizations whenever possible.
-
Next give your opinion of the movie or CD. What parts were good and why. What parts were bad and why. Discuss what you thought of the actors, how well it was shot and directed, the use of sets, lighting and other special effects, what kind of music did it feature, etc. Remember, be interesting and honest.
