find the definitions for income, gross income, wages, payroll period, regular
pay, overtime pay, piecework earnings, salaries, commission. This can be
done using a text book or the internet. For those who have already had a
job or presently have a job, these terms may be familiar. |

Have students do a written assignment to determine the various
calculations. |

Have students determine the difference between working on a commission,
working for a commission plus a salary ,working for a wage and working for
a salary. |

Have students do a research paper on people that they know, the
type of job that they have and the method of payment. Have them discuss
the advantages and disadvantages of the various types of payments. |

Present students with scenarios where they are the
employer. Have them determine the best way to pay their employees. Reverse
the scenario and have them be the employee and then determine which way
they would prefer to be paid. Are the methods the same whether you are the
employer or the employee. Discuss. |
