Planning for a More Successful School
School Goals Workshop - Introduction

Developing Your School Goals

Why Would You Want To Use A Workshop Format?

Every school spends time setting goals for what it wishes to accomplishx over the course of a year or several years. How a school undertakes this exercise in planning can determine the success of the entire process. Whom you involve in determining your school goals and the depth of their participation is vital to successful implementation.

The difficulty for any in-school administrator is to develop a process that will yield the desired results, while not consuming inordinate amounts of time, either in the planning stages or in the execution of the process.

What follows is an overview for a one-day workshop (or two half-days). You will be given some of the considerations to examine before you hold your workshop, a step-by-step outline for completing the day, and detailed descriptions of the activities that any school can use to move towards developing a set of attainable goals.

While this workshop is not meant to be prescriptive in nature, it has been used in four different schools within the Regina Public School System over the course of several years and has proven its effectiveness in helping a school set its goals. Hopefully, it can assist your school in determining its direction!

If you haven't tried working together as a school and community to set your goals, give it a try. The results may surprise you. Not only that - it's FUN!
