EFFECTIVE DISCIPLINE STRATEGIES
It goes without saying that effective
discipline strategies are an essential ingredient to running
a successful school. The approach to discipline presented
presented here combines the philosophy and approach of Ron
Moorish with that of Harry Wong. These approaches are compatible

One of the most exciting and rewarding aspects

1. Encourage your staff to read
the following book:
The 12 Keys to Discipline by Ronald Moorish
(For further reinforcement read With All Due Respect: Keys for
Building Effective School Discipline. by Ronald Moorish and The
First Days of School by Harry Wong. These books are truly valuable
resources in understanding how good discipline practices can make
all the difference in the school and can give students less time
to think of ways to manipulate the system and more time to get
down to work and learn!
2. Think of discipline as practice on how to do things right.
3. Consider class time as sacred, showing respect to teachers
and learning.
(Many problems go away when students think they
might have to be discussed after school or at 8:00AM.)
4. Refer to school expectations rather than rules.
(We expect students to take their hats off when they enter the
school. It is part of proper school behavior and manners.) Remember

5. Expectations are not negotiable.
6. Talk so the students are dealing with a whole body of adults
and tradition!
