Homeroom Program

Tag Day Homeroom Program

Thank you for accepting the challenge of initiating this program!

The logistics of this program centered upon the idea of matching a small group of students with an adult staff member to foster a sense of belonging. Hopefully it will be a positive place to share information, ideas, problems or concerns, and positive recognition for our students. The benefit of the program lies in our creativity and our approach to meeting the needs of the students of Thomson. By giving the students a voice within the school and a connection with each other and the staff, we should experience a productive and friendly atmosphere within our walls and on our playground.

Some points that needed to be considered to start this project were as follows:
1. 244 students (as of now?) matched up with 23 staff members [10.608695 students in each group]
2. Program goals/activities/expectations
3. Parental questions/concerns regarding the program
4. Locations for each group
5. Timetable concerns
6. Amount of time for these sessions
7. Varied age levels within the groups ( K to 8 with ESL and Adaptation students)
8. New student placements
9. Days when regular staff members or classrooms are away from the building
10. Follow-up processes to maximize the positive outcomes
11. The unexpected!

We agreed that the Tag Homeroom project was to be worked upon from now until December 1st. Our starting point was the concept of 10 or 11 students meeting with a staff member for approximately 10 20 minutes, on average two times a month. Some possible topics/activities will be outlined on the following pages and comes with the student groupings and meeting locations. Before we start, look over that information and if you see a serious glitch in the works, please advise John or Brad ASAP. Considerations will be made if student groupings raise serious concerns.

The essence of this initiative centers on our goals and expectations for the program. The following touches on those points with my hope that staff members will feel free to suggest, redefine, extend or modify as is necessary.
