Technology Integration

" Through the door of change, triggered by technology
Come a whole set of changes, requiring lifelong learners"

Vision
The integration of technology will improve student learning, enabling students to become lifelong learners.

Technology is a tool which enhances learning in curriculum areas. The role of the teacher is to select the appropriate use of technology to improve student learning related to topics in the curricula.

We are moving into a new era of technology integration. The greatest challenge now is to help teachers learn to make effective use of computer technology to enhance learning in their classrooms. Technology provides an avenue for developing independent learning skills, and in the process engaging students in their learning and developing self-esteem.

The following is an outline of the kinds of uses for technology in the classroom.

Productivity Tools Word Processing Writing and publishing
  Graphics Creating images using draw/paint programs

  • To have teachers integrating the use of technology in their classrooms on a daily basis to support and enhance curriculum;
  • To train teachers to design learning environments in which technology helps children learn;
  • To have students using technology as a tool within curriculum areas in whatever way is appropriate to improve learning;
  • To create opportunities which cause students to think or act in new and different ways;
  • To create learning environments in which students are actively engaged in learning, supported by technology.
New models for staff development need to implemented, involving ongoing inservice and support, both face-to-face and online, to offer assistance and guidance as teachers seek the successful integration of technology into their teaching and learning environments.
