Introduction to Motion in our World
This resource provides background and activities which introduce motion that is common to students, such as people or vehicles moving. Its focus is on simple linear motion and the student's ability to describe motion in words, diagrams, graphs and equations. A variety of hands-on and technological activities are provided to "develop strong conceptual understandings of position, speed and acceleration" according to the Saskatchewan Science 10 Curriculum.
Key Questions that will be explored are (as suggested in the Saskatchewan Science 10 Curriculum):
1. |
What are the characteristics of the motion of objects that exhibit uniform motion or uniformly accelerated motion? |
2. |
How can we describe motion and the changes in motion of everyday objects? |
3. |
What are different methods of representing the motion of everyday objects and what are the advantages and disadvantages of these methods? |
4. |
What are some methods of determining the position, speed, and acceleration of everyday objects? |
