MANAGEMENT: Collection

Collection management is the key area of teacher-librarian responsibility. There is a difference between a collection and an accumulation. Collection can be defined as "materials gathered together with some specific criteria in mind."

A well-managed collection is essential for a successful school library program. Characteristics of the collection are the variety of types of resources to meet the needs of the learners, the size of the collection, and the accessibility and currency of the collection.

"It does not matter how many books you may have, but whether they are
good or not." - Lucius Annaeus Seneca (3 B.C.-65 A.D.), Epistolae Morale
