A collection must be the foundation of the school library program. Materials must demonstrate a curriculum fit, balance, reliability, and a clear plan of development.

While collection mapping can provide an evaluation of the collection, weeding ensures that the collection has materials removed that are no longer required. Weeding can free-up space to be used more effectively.
