MANAGEMENT: Facility

The school library facility can and should provide the appropriate learning environment to support the instructional program of the school. Facility plans are unique to each school but have common characteristics.

Comfort, welcome, and user-friendly are keys to successful school library facilities.

When school library facilities are being designed or renovated the following principles should be considered:

layout should reflect the way it will be used (form follows function)
design should include:  aesthetics and ergonomics
access to resources, space, and information must be equitable for all users
traffic flow, safety, security must be ensured
space must accommodate the needs of the users, as well as storage and
   processing
