Policy and Procedures
Teacher-librarian (TL) has identified and posted procedures for circulation and library behaviour expectations. TL is aware that policies at various levels impact on the school library and has considered this in the development of the local school library policy; procedures have been developed for several management issues in the library. TL incorporates many aspects of policy at various levels into a school library policy. Comprehensive procedures are in place for the management of the library. Library procedures are communicated to staff and students. TL has a thorough understanding of provincial, division, and school policies as they relate to the library; and has utilized them in the development of a school library policy. Effective school library procedures have been developed and are well-documented for staff and student use.
Collection
TL maintains shelf order; repairs, and deselects worn and damaged materials. TL ensures shelf order, and that resources are in good repair. New resources are selected as a result of requests and recommendations. TL is familiar with collection and endeavors to select new materials utilizing the Saskatchewan curriculum bibliographies to ensure the resources support curriculum needs. Worn and inappropriate resources are removed from the collection. TL regularly maps the collection for relevancy and currency to develop a long and short term plan for selection and weeding of resources. Many tools including curriculum bibliographies are utilized to ensure the resources purchased support curriculum needs.

Budget

TL purchases resources as needed with funds allocated by the school budget. TL prepares a basic plan for the expenditure of the library budget which provides for the current resource needs of the school. TL has a comprehensive budget plan developed in consultation with staff and the administrator to ensure adequate resources to support the resource centre program. TL provides leadership in developing comprehensive long and short term budgets in consultation with staff and the administrator to ensure the purchase of resources for both immediate and future needs.
Planning TL is responsive to day-to-day activities in the school and library management concerns as they arise. TL develops a year plan that encompasses key management activities as well as events relevant to the library throughout the year. (School Library Day) TL develops a plan that includes management responsibilities, events, and instructional planning that integrates the opportunities for collaborative planning with staff. TL develops a comprehensive management and instructional plan that fosters collaboration and the integration of information literacy skills in learning experiences.
