4.1 Sound FX for the Theatre

Many plays require additional sound to help create the atmosphere of the location depicted on stage. Sound Effects can be performed live during the production or pre-recorded and played back from a source such as a compact disc. There are four main steps from reading the script to having a master copy of all the effects you need for the show.

Mixer
With a little creativity and a little bit of hardware you can make great sounds to accompany a production. If you have the technology, mixing sound on a computer can give you astonishing results. Don't count out a basic tape recorder and a healthy imagination, though. Whatever you have to work with, the main goal of this section is to be able to identify and make basic sounds for a play.
