6.1 Costuming

Major productions require a lot from the costuming department. Based on the script, a costume designer will draw sketches of each of the costumes required by each of the actors. From these sketches, clothing can be collected or custom made. It is a long and challenging process and can eat up a large part of a production's budget.

The actual tailoring of costumes is a whole other process and will be discussed in Theatre Arts 30. It is in this module that we will learn the basics of costuming. Most productions depend on renting or borrowing clothing anyhow, so these skills will suit you well.
