6.2 Costume Fitting

Have the actor try on their costume. Check sleeves and pant legs for length. Rental trousers often have to be hemmed or pinned to the correct length. It is possible to adjust clothing with a few stitches here and there to it a better fit.
Our model on the right has a jacket which is much too large for him. If this is desirable for the character then it will do. A better fitting jacket may be required. Communicate with the actor. Have them lift their arms, sit in a chair, kneel and move about. The actor will be able to tell you if their costume is too loose or too tight. Take notes and adjust the costume if possible. If it is not possible to adjust the clothing, you may have to find an alternative.
Fitting
It is most important for the actor to be comfortable in what they are wearing. Repeat this process for each costume. Test for movement and temperature. Put the actor under stage lights and see how hot they become. It is best to do this as early as possible, long before a production starts in case of any alterations that need to be done.
