7.4 Researching Hair Styles

Great hair design requires a stylist to research different periods and eras in time and in fashion. The internet is becoming a valuable resource in find pictures of historic hair and some sites even provide detailed instructions on how to style hair.

Using books, magazines, hair studio books, or the internet, research and design a hair style for one character from a script. You or your instructor may find a character in a script to base your design on. You may also use the original script, The Towers, included in this resource. You may also design a moustache and beard if needed.

Consider the following in your research:

• historical period
• socioeconomic status
• character’s age
• occupation

Print and clip pictures to include in your Theatre Log. You may be asked to create a hair reference as a group or class project for your theatre arts department.
