8.2 Setup & Strike

The Backstage Crew has the responsibility of moving sets, set pieces and props into their proper positions on stage during a production. This is done in near darkness and requires the crew to rehearse their actions and to be very organized and attentive to the play. When called into action they must be quick and silent. Each item must be placed on its mark as not to cause mass confusion with the actors in the middle of their performance.

In this section you will learn:

Spiking Tape
Remember that communication between all departments is important at this time. The director will also be involved in the process, making sure that the set meets their expectations. Any last minute details or changes are made at this time. The set must be ready to go before dress rehearsal and taken down promptly after the final show.
