8.2 The Props Table

The Props Table is an excellent means of keeping all hand props organized during a play. This is the procedure for preparing a props table.

Find a table large enough to set all hand props. You can also use tables in multiple locations if necessary.

  • Cover the table with white paper thick enough so that a marker may not pass through.
  • Set all hand props on the table with space around each one. (organize props by scene or by actor)
  • Trace an outline of each prop where it sits.
  • Remove the props one by one, record the name of the prop in the centre of the outline.
  • Replace all props on the table.

Why do you think it is necessary to have a props table? Why do we outline each of the props and write the name of the prop inside the outline?
