8.3 Communication Etiquette

Remember that there is to be no unnecessary talk back stage or over the intercom system.

Calling the show. Traditionally the stage manager is responsible for calling the show. From a Master Cue Sheet, they will give a 15 - 30 second warning to the operating crews for each cue. The following is a typical example of how the show would be called by the stage manager.

"Warning Curtain 3, Lights 7 through 9 and Sound 12 "

(15 - 20 seconds)

"Curtain 3... GO"
"Lights 7... GO"
"Lights 8... GO"
"Sound 12... GO"
"Lights 9... GO"

Curtains Open
Scene Lights Up
Spot Lights Up
Music Up
Blackout

It is up to the stage manager to gauge the show and call cues, constantly adapting to the timing of the show as determined by the audience. This is a challenging process and must be practiced by the technical crew during technical rehearsals.
