9.3 Communication

Communication in the work place is vital to not only the success of the organization, but your personal success and achievement as well. Communication is usually categorized into two categories, Non-Verbal Communication and Verbal Communication.

Two Way Communication
Communication is also a shared phenomenon. You need someone to receive your message in order for understanding to take place.

Non-Verbal Communication
Much of our communication is non-verbal and it's importance must be appreciated. People are very receptive to the messages we deliver subconsciously. Becoming aware of this communication heightens our ability to project accurately what we need others to see and also to allow us to be more perceptive of the messages we see other people give.

Verbal Communication
Listening is probably the aspect of communication that requires the most attention. Often we need the opportunity to practice listening. Open, active, engaged listening requires effort and concentration. Not only must we be heard by others, we must allow time for active listening to take place.
